Owusu makes Erzurumspor debut in 4-0 Turkish Super Lig loss
Ghana midfielder Elisha Owusu played the full match on his Erzurumspor debut, but Galatasaray won 4-0 in the Turkish Super Lig.
Elisha Owusu’s first appearance for Erzurumspor ended in a 4-0 defeat by Galatasaray in the Turkish Super Lig on Friday. The Ghana midfielder started and remained on the pitch for the entire match at Kazım Karabekir Stadium.
Owusu had joined Erzurumspor only two days before the fixture but was immediately included in the starting lineup. Operating in defensive midfield, he faced a Galatasaray side that controlled the contest for long periods and placed his new team under sustained pressure.
Galatasaray opened the scoring after 12 minutes. Roland Sallai reacted first to a loose ball in the penalty area and sent a low finish into the bottom corner. The visitors doubled their advantage eight minutes later when Victor Osimhen chose to pass to Yunus Akgün, who converted from a good position.
The pressure continued before the interval, and Galatasaray added a third goal shortly before half-time. Osimhen took advantage of a defensive error involving Matija Orbanic, collected the loose ball and finished from inside the box to give the visitors a 3-0 lead.
Erzurumspor kept Owusu on the field after the break as they tried to reduce the deficit, but Galatasaray continued to dictate the match. Osimhen completed the scoring in the 79th minute after Gabriel Sara picked him out inside the area, allowing the Nigeria striker to finish into the left side of the net.
The result gives Owusu a difficult start with Erzurumspor, who were unable to score and conceded twice in each half. The 28-year-old Ghanaian, who can also represent France, now begins his effort to establish himself in the team after being handed a full debut against one of the league’s strongest opponents.
