Etta Egbe backs NFF committee to address Nigeria football crisis

Former Green Eagles goalkeeper Etta Egbe has urged patience as the NFF fact-finding committee seeks solutions to Nigeria’s football problems.

Former Green Eagles goalkeeper Etta Egbe has endorsed the Nigeria Football Federation’s fact-finding committee, saying its members should be given the opportunity to investigate the issues affecting the country’s football and propose solutions.

Egbe’s support is based on the experience and credibility of several people appointed to the panel. He believes the composition provides grounds for confidence that the committee can produce recommendations capable of helping Nigerian football move forward.

His position comes as debate over the direction of Nigerian football has intensified. The NFF’s decision to establish the committee has been welcomed by some former internationals and stakeholders, while others remain doubtful that another panel can resolve problems they believe have already been identified.

Egbe has argued that the committee should not be judged before it completes its work. He wants stakeholders to wait for the final report rather than dismissing the exercise while the panel is still carrying out its assignment.

The issues before the committee reach beyond the results of the national teams. They include the domestic league, grassroots development, football administration, infrastructure, player welfare and the structure for the country’s long-term football development. Those areas give the panel a broad mandate as it considers the condition of the sport.

The report will therefore be expected to do more than repeat familiar concerns. Its recommendations will need to offer practical steps that can produce measurable improvements, while the eventual impact of the exercise will depend on whether those proposals are put into action. For now, Egbe’s message is that the panel deserves time to complete its work before its value is assessed.
