Birmingham City ready to accept loss on Marvin Ducksch exit this summer

Birmingham City are prepared to let Marvin Ducksch leave this summer for about €500,000, despite paying €2m to sign the striker from Werder Bremen last year. The proposed fee would represent a significant loss for the club.

Ducksch, 32, has a contract with Birmingham running until 2028, but the club is willing to facilitate his departure. Several Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga clubs are monitoring the forward, although interested teams have yet to make their interest firm.

The striker wants to return to Germany, where he has spent most of his career. He has also attracted attention from MLS clubs, including Orlando and Atlanta, but those options have been rejected as he favours a move back to his home country.

Ducksch has played for Borussia Dortmund, St. Pauli, Holstein Kiel, Fortuna Dusseldorf, Hannover 96 and Werder Bremen in Germany. His strongest spell came at Werder, where he scored 54 goals and supplied 40 assists in 134 appearances. He helped the club earn promotion to the Bundesliga and received his first Germany call-up during that period.

He finished last season with 11 goals and two assists in 37 matches for Birmingham after joining during the summer transfer window. His goal tally matched Jay Stansfield’s team-leading total, despite Ducksch appearing in 11 fewer games.

The main obstacle for potential buyers may be his salary. Ducksch is earning about €2m per year at St Andrew’s, making his wages a more significant commitment even if the transfer fee is kept near €500,000. Birmingham are now waiting for clubs in Germany to turn their interest into concrete proposals.
