Salford City have added 26-year-old midfielder Brendan Sarpong-Wiredu from Plymouth Argyle on a multi-year deal. The English-Ghanaian player has joined the squad ahead of Saturday’s League Two fixture against Chesterfield, although the transfer still requires approval from the relevant authorities.
His arrival gives Salford another experienced option in midfield during a busy part of the season. The club has also welcomed Sarpong-Wiredu and his family to Greater Manchester as he begins his next move in the lower leagues.
Sarpong-Wiredu developed through Charlton Athletic’s academy before gaining senior experience with Colchester United and Fleetwood Town. He moved to Plymouth Argyle in 2025 and has now left the club for a fresh challenge with Salford.
The midfielder is valued for his energy and strength, while his versatility allows him to cover defensive positions when required. He has also described his game as one built on hard work without possession, composure when controlling the ball and a willingness to add goals.
Sarpong-Wiredu has said he is eager to begin at Salford and understands the club’s ambitions for the season. His move provides manager Neil Wood with additional flexibility as the club continues its League Two campaign.
Away from football, Sarpong-Wiredu has established a foundation that supports young people in England and Ghana through sport. His switch to Salford adds another chapter to a career that has taken him from the Charlton academy through several English lower-league clubs.
