Brian Baloyi backs Khanyisa Mayo after permanent Kaizer Chiefs move
Brian Baloyi has backed Khanyisa Mayo to repay Kaizer Chiefs’ faith after the forward completed a permanent move to the Soweto club.
Brian Baloyi has backed Khanyisa Mayo to justify Kaizer Chiefs’ faith after the forward completed a permanent transfer to the South African Premier Soccer League club. The move makes Mayo part of a Chiefs squad that has started the 2026 league campaign without defeat.
Baloyi’s support places the focus on Mayo’s response to the club’s decision to secure him permanently. The former goalkeeper believes the forward can repay that trust, although no individual performance figures for Mayo are attached to the transfer announcement.
Chiefs sit second in the 2026 Premier Soccer League standings with seven points from three matches. They have won twice and drawn once, scoring six goals and conceding two. That record leaves the club among the early leaders as Mayo begins his permanent spell with the team.
The club’s broader recent form has been mixed. Chiefs lost 2-1 away to Elche and then drew 1-1 with Al Kholood before suffering a 1-0 defeat against Chippa United. They responded with a 1-0 victory at Amazulu and followed it with a 2-0 win away to Sekhukhune United.
Those last two victories came before the unbeaten league start reflected in the table, with Chiefs taking seven points from their opening three matches. The figures also show a side that has combined defensive control with enough attacking output to score six times in the competition.
Mayo’s permanent transfer comes as Chiefs prepare for their next league fixture away to Richards Bay on 26 August 2026. The match will be the club’s next opportunity to continue its unbeaten start, while Baloyi’s backing has placed attention on the contribution Mayo can make after the move.
