CAF appoints Charles Bulu for Mighty Wanderers-Simba CAF Champions League clash

CAF has appointed Ghanaian FIFA referee Charles Bulu to take charge of the two-legged CAF Champions League tie between Malawi’s Mighty Wanderers and Simba SC. The first leg is scheduled for September 6 at Bingu Stadium in Lilongwe, where Mighty Wanderers will host the Tanzanian club.

Bulu will be supported by fellow Ghanaians Seth Abletor and Richard Kweku Nartey, who have been named as the assistant referees. Nigeria’s Grema Mohammed will serve as the fourth official for the match.

The Lilongwe meeting will open the contest for a place in the next round of the competition. The return leg is set for September 12 in Tanzania, with progress to be decided by the aggregate score across both fixtures.

Simba enter the assignment in second place in the 2026 Ligi Kuu Bara standings, having collected nine points from three matches. They have won all three league games, scoring six goals and conceding two. Their listed league results include victories over Kagera Sugar, Singida Fountain Gate and KMC, alongside draws against Jamus and Mogadishu City in recent form.

The Tanzanian side’s recent sequence is recorded as wins by 2-0, 2-1 and 1-0, followed by 0-0 draws against Jamus and Mogadishu City. Simba are due to face Coastal Union in their next Ligi Kuu Bara fixture on August 27, before turning their attention to the continental tie.

Mighty Wanderers will have the first opportunity to build an advantage on home ground, while Simba will seek a result that keeps the two-leg contest open before the return in Tanzania. Bulu’s appointment completes a Ghanaian-led officiating team for the opening match, with the outcome determining which club advances.
