Cape Town win first national netball title by one goal

Cape Town secured their first national netball title under their current identity with a one-goal victory over Tshwane. The win marks the first time the team has claimed the championship since the Western Cape last won in 2016.

Head coach Dr Freda Kemp stated that the victory is the result of years of planning and efforts to promote netball within the province. Kemp noted that securing financial support for the sport has been a priority for the last three years. She explained that winning was a necessary step to attract the sponsorships needed for the team's development.

The achievement follows a narrow defeat in last year's final, where Cape Town lost to Johannesburg by a single goal in Gauteng. This season's success on home soil provides a different outcome for the coaching staff.

Assistant coach and former Proteas player Phumza Maweni described the final as a nerve-racking experience that nearly required extra time to decide. Maweni praised the players for maintaining their composure during the high-pressure closing stages of the match.

Maweni also expressed gratitude to the local community for their support during the tournament. While the experience on the bench was difficult, the assistant coach said the players delivered exactly what was required of them.
