Namibia to host inaugural FNB T20 Tri-Series with South Africa and Zimbabwe

Cricket Namibia has announced the first FNB T20 Tri-Series, which will feature the FNB Eagles, South Africa’s Proteas, and Zimbabwe’s Chevrons. The tournament is scheduled to begin on 28 August, with every participating team playing two matches against each of their opponents.

Following the conclusion of the T20 competition, the FNB Eagles and the Proteas will compete in a separate One Day International (ODI) series. Cricket Namibia CEO Johan Muller expressed gratitude to both Zimbabwe Cricket and Cricket South Africa for ensuring their players are available for the event. Muller noted that hosting top-tier nations is a rare privilege following a single match held last year.

The series is intended to pilot a concept discussed during the International Cricket Council (ICC) Africa conference in April. This initiative aims to foster collaboration between African nations to establish high-level competitions, such as a proposed Africa Cup scheduled for next year. Muller stated the tri-series will serve as a starting point for these regional partnerships.

FNB Namibia CEO Conrad Dempsey noted that the partnership between the bank and Cricket Namibia continues to expand. He indicated that FNB remains committed to supporting the growth of cricket within the country.

FNB Eagles head coach Craig Williams said the opportunity to face higher-ranked sides is vital for an associate nation. He mentioned that the previous match against South Africa generated significant interest and increased visibility for Namibian cricket. Williams confirmed the Eagles squad is currently healthy and preparing for the arrival of the South African and Zimbabwean teams.
