Carl Froch gives Conor Benn a low rating ahead of Garcia fight

Former world champion Carl Froch has given Conor Benn a below-average rating out of ten. The assessment comes as the 29-year-old prepares to face WBC champion Ryan Garcia on September 12 at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.

Froch shared his views on his YouTube channel regarding Benn's boxing ability. The rating arrives as Benn seeks to move up in class against Garcia, who is making his first world title defence since defeating Mario Barrios in February. Garcia's victory over Barrios included a first-round knockdown and a unanimous decision win.

Benn's recent record at welterweight has drawn scrutiny. He has not competed at the 147lbs weight limit since 2022. His two most recent victories were unanimous decision wins against Regis Prograis and Chris Eubank Jr.

Both fighters have faced disciplinary issues regarding banned substances. Benn was previously removed from a 2022 bout against Eubank after testing positive for clomifene. Garcia served a 12-month ban following a positive test for ostarine, which occurred after his majority decision win over Devin Haney was declared a no-contest.

Garcia's recent form includes a points loss to Rolando Romero in May 2025. While some view the 28-year-old Garcia as a world-class operator, others believe he still needs to face more difficult opposition to prove his standing.
