Frank Warren targets Itauma vs Dubois for undisputed glory
Promoter Frank Warren envisions a massive stadium fight between Moses Itauma and Daniel Dubois as part of a long-term plan for heavyweight unification.
Frank Warren has outlined a strategic vision for the heavyweight division that includes a major showdown between Moses Itauma and Daniel Dubois. The Queensberry promoter views a fight between the two heavy hitters as a massive event capable of filling stadiums.
Warren's plan involves consolidating power within the division. He currently manages several champions, including Daniel Dubois, who holds the WBO title, and Agit Kabayel, the WBC champion. He believes a unification programme to crown an undisputed king could occur within the next 18 months to two years, provided sanctioning bodies agree to adjust mandatory challenger schedules.
The path for Itauma involves a vacant IBF title fight against Filip Hrgovic on August 29 at the O2 Arena. Frank Sanchez is positioned to face the winner of that encounter. Warren noted that while the winner of the Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua fight will be a factor, a clash between Itauma and Dubois remains a primary objective for his stable.
Other scheduled activity includes a rematch between Daniel Dubois and Fabio Wardley in October. Wardley was previously defeated by Dubois via an 11th-round stoppage in May. While Kabayel is also expected to defend his title before the end of the year, Warren is looking to expand his influence by bringing in other top fighters.
One notable figure not currently with Queensberry is WBA champion Murat Gassiev. Although Gassiev is signed to IBA Pro, he has indicated an interest in facing fighters from the Queensberry stable, including Itauma and Kabayel. Warren expressed a desire to include the 32-year-old in his heavyweight plans to further the pursuit of undisputed status.
