Carter Gordon returns as Wallabies make eight changes for Japan Test
Australia has made eight changes to their starting lineup for the second Test against Japan in Townsville, featuring the return of Carter Gordon.
Wallabies coach Les Kiss has implemented eight changes to his starting XV ahead of the second Test against Japan in Townsville. Carter Gordon returns to the flyhalf position following a calf injury, replacing Declan Meredith.
Australia secured a narrow 35-32 victory over the Brave Blossoms in Osaka during last week's encounter. Kiss noted that the intense heat and humidity during that match were physically taxing for both squads, prompting the decision to rotate the roster for this Saturday's fixture.
Only captain Harry Wilson and Josh Nasser retain their places in the forward pack. Taniela Tupou and Angus Bell return to the front row, while Lukhan Salakaia-Loto and Lachlan Shaw will form a new second-row pairing. Charlie Cale earns his first start at blindside flank, joining Carlo Tizzano and Wilson in the back row.
In the backline, Isaac Henry makes his first start at inside centre to cover for the injured Joseph Suaalii. Henry will partner with Hunter Paisami, who shifts to the outside centre position. Ryan Lonergan will operate at scrumhalf alongside Gordon, while the back three of Tom Wright, Max Jorgensen, and Harry Potter remains unchanged.
Kiss stated that the coaching staff sought to find balance in the selection after the demanding week in Japan. He added that the team intends to use the home match in Townsville to improve and strengthen their performance in front of local supporters.
