Championship: Jordan James eager to continue Wolves form at Birmingham

Jordan James will return to Birmingham City on Sunday after spending 12 years at the club during his development. The Wolves midfielder joined Birmingham at the age of eight and now wants to help his new side take all three points at St Andrew’s.

James has made an immediate impact since moving to Wolves, scoring in last Saturday’s home victory over Stoke City. Two weeks into his time with the club, he says he is now comfortable with his new teammates and coaching staff and understands what is expected in their style of play.

The midfielder also believes his fitness has improved since arriving. He was not ready for a full match when he first joined after six weeks of pre-season in France, but feels much stronger after his opening games and is keen to build on his start.

His first Wolves goal came at Molineux in front of his family, adding significance to an important early moment in his new career. James felt the performance reflected the main strengths of his game: dropping deep to receive possession, moving into wide areas, arriving in the penalty area and finishing.

Family support has been important to James since his return to England. He has moved to Wolverhampton because travelling regularly to his home in Hereford was not practical, although he visits whenever possible. He said being closer to his family helped him during his previous return from France to Leicester and contributed to stronger performances, which was part of his reason for coming back to England.

The trip to Birmingham will be an emotional one for the 20-year-old, who spent his formative years there and credits the club with giving him an early platform. He expects the opening minutes to feel unusual, but is looking forward to seeing familiar faces and returning with his parents. James hopes for a positive reception from the supporters, while remaining focused on securing a Championship win for Wolves.
