Charles Sampson faces selection dilemma for U20 World Cup

Black Princesses head coach Charles Sampson has admitted that choosing a final squad for the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Poland will be a difficult task. The high level of competition among players has created a selection headache for the technical team.

Ghana has been conducting training sessions at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram since July 5. Sampson noted that the intensity of the training and the performances of the players have been encouraging during this period.

While the squad is beginning to take shape, the coach explained that the quality of the players makes it hard to decide who will make the final cut. He mentioned that some players currently with the Black Queens in Morocco are expected to join the camp at a later date.

Sampson described the difficulty in making decisions as a positive issue, stating that the competitiveness is the standard he expects from the players. He noted that the players are responding well to the training regime.

However, the preparations have been hindered by medical setbacks. The head coach confirmed that the team has lost several players and goalkeepers to injuries, which he described as unfortunate.

Ghana is scheduled to participate in friendly matches in Poland prior to the start of the tournament. The Black Princesses will begin their World Cup campaign against Ecuador on September 6.
