Chitungwiza Pool League grows as C Junction win Heroes title 6-3

C Junction underlined Chitungwiza’s growing pool strength by defeating Eland 6-3 in the final of the Heroes tournament. The victory brought the club a $500 prize and a shield after a successful run through the competition.

The tournament featured several of the leading clubs from the United Chitungwiza Pool League, which is currently halfway through its season. C Junction have also carried that form into the league campaign, sitting at the top after 17 rounds.

Tigers Pool Club, a former national champion, are second in the standings. Eland Stars occupy third place, while Lions complete the top four. The positions reflect the strength of a competition that continues to provide regular opportunities for clubs and players in the dormitory town.

Chitungwiza has a strong record of producing players who have reached the top of Zimbabwe’s national pool scene. Alice Chiota retained her national Carling Black Label women’s title, while Patricia Ganya, Pearson Nyasha and Obedience Nyaumwe are among the other champions associated with the town.

The town’s influence is also visible at club level. Tigers of Zengeza 5 and Small Stones have represented Chitungwiza prominently in national club championships, adding to the area’s reputation as a source of high-level talent.

Zimbabwe Pool Association president Isaac “Zeke” Tichareva said the UCPL’s expansion could benefit the sport across the country because of Chitungwiza’s history of developing leading players. He also highlighted the importance of corporate backing to maintain the league’s progress, while recognising those already supporting pool.

With the season only at its midpoint and C Junction setting the pace, the league remains an important platform for identifying and developing players capable of competing nationally. Its continuing growth strengthens Chitungwiza’s established role in Zimbabwean pool.
