Chukwueze stars as Milan beat United 4-2 in Nigerian roundup
Samuel Chukwueze produced a goal and two assists for AC Milan as Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams also impressed in a strong Nigerian weekend abroad.
AC Milan defeated Manchester United 4-2 in a high-profile friendly, with Samuel Chukwueze involved in three of the Italian side’s goals. The Nigerian winger scored once and created two more as Milan secured the standout result of the weekend for the country’s players abroad.
Chukwueze’s display came during the opening phase of the 2026/27 European football season, which also brought decisive contributions from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams. Osimhen scored twice in the second half for Galatasaray, changing the outcome of an opening-day match that had been heading towards defeat for the Turkish champions.
Adams marked his Venezia debut with two goals and an assist in a 3-2 Coppa Italia comeback victory. The forward had moved from Spain only weeks earlier, making his immediate impact one of the weekend’s notable Nigerian performances.
Victor Boniface also settled a close contest after coming on as a substitute for Bayer Leverkusen against Newcastle United. He scored the winning goal in the 82nd minute, responding on the pitch after recent discussion about his physical condition.
Other Nigerians made important contributions across Europe. Rafiu Durosinmi scored his second goal in two matches for KRC Genk, helping the Belgian club to a home win. Kelechi Iheanacho also continued his scoring run at Bursaspor with his second goal in as many games, while Stanley Iheanacho came off the bench to earn Midtjylland a league draw against Lyngby.
Gift Orban supplied an assist in Turkey, and Abraham Marcus opened his season’s account in the Portuguese league. Ryan Alebiosu was named man of the match for Blackburn Rovers against Wolves, but a stoppage-time penalty he conceded allowed Wolves to prevent Blackburn from winning the season opener.
