Conrad explains Proteas selection for upcoming Namibia tour

Proteas coach Conrad has detailed the reasoning behind the selection of a 15-man squad for the upcoming tour of Namibia. The squad features a largely inexperienced group of players who will participate in a three-match ODI series in Windhoek.

Conrad stated that the tour provides an ideal chance for younger players to gain international experience. He explained that the decision to select a different lineup was influenced by a demanding summer ahead, which includes home series against England and Australia. By sending a younger group to Namibia, the coach can provide senior players with an extended period of rest before those major fixtures.

Regarding the playing conditions, Conrad expressed confidence in the Namibia Cricket Ground. He noted that the quality of wickets typically improves with more use and expects a high-standard facility. The Proteas previously visited the venue in October last year for a T20 International held to mark the official opening of the ground.

The coach also addressed the responsibility of the more established South African side during the tri-series involving Zimbabwe and Namibia. He believes the team has a duty to assist in the development of cricket within Namibia and across the African continent whenever possible.

This development comes as South Africa, Namibia, and Zimbabwe prepare to co-host the 2027 ICC Cricket World Cup, which is scheduled for October and November of next year.
