Dana White breaks down Bella Mir’s DWCS Season 10 loss to Apodaca

Bella Mir dropped to 4-1 after losing a unanimous decision to Alex Apodaca on Week 3 of Dana White’s Contender Series Season 10. Dana White said the result reflected Apodaca’s experience in the later stages of fights, an area Mir had not previously faced at that level.

Speaking after the card at the Meta Apex in Las Vegas, White identified the difference between the fighters’ experience when bouts become physically and mentally demanding. Apodaca had already dealt with those moments, while Mir was competing in that kind of situation for the first time.

White also pointed to Apodaca’s mindset before the contest. Despite entering the fight as a major underdog, Apodaca carried himself with confidence rather than behaving as if the result was beyond his reach. Apodaca’s performance earned him a UFC contract after the event.

Mir had been the biggest favourite in Contender Series history before the defeat. White had previously encouraged her to attend college before pursuing a full-time MMA career, and he referred to the goals she had discussed for the next several years.

The loss also led White to discuss how difficult it is for fighters to remain unbeaten throughout their careers. He used Jon Jones as an example, arguing that success at the highest level involves more than physical ability and that fighters must learn how to respond when they are pushed into difficult territory.

White cited Jones’s first fight with Alexander Gustafsson as an example of a bout that tested him and showed how he handled adversity. He also noted that maintaining a perfect record is rare in MMA, with Georges St-Pierre having lost twice and Khabib Nurmagomedov retiring at 29-0.

The next step for Mir remains with her and her father, former UFC champion Frank Mir. White said they will decide whether she returns quickly or spends time addressing areas of her game before competing again.
