Deano Van Rooyen sends farewell message after Orlando Pirates exit

Deano Van Rooyen has addressed his departure from Orlando Pirates with a message of thanks after the defender and the club agreed to end their relationship. The 29-year-old right-back was released last week, bringing his time with the Buccaneers to a close.

Van Rooyen arrived at Pirates from Stellenbosch FC in August 2024. During his spell with the Sea Robbers, he played 51 matches. He described the period as two important years in his development, both on the pitch and away from football.

His exit followed a reduced role under head coach Abdeslam Ouaddou. Van Rooyen had slipped down the defensive order, and that change in his standing contributed to the decision to part ways during the current window.

In his farewell message, Van Rooyen expressed appreciation for the opportunities he received at Pirates, as well as the challenges, lessons and experiences gathered during his time at the club. He also reflected on the memories created while representing the team in its colours.

The defender extended his thanks to his teammates for their relationship and shared battles. Coaches, the technical staff, management and other club employees were also recognised for the assistance and direction they provided throughout his spell.

Van Rooyen also acknowledged the Pirates supporters, saying that playing in front of them and being part of the Buccaneers family had been a privilege. He pointed to their loyalty and continued backing before ending his message with respect, affection and gratitude for the club.
