Dolphins face First Deep Water in league title defence

Dolphins Women Basketball Club begins their NBBF/Zenith Bank Premier League title defence against First Deep Water on Sunday in Lagos.

Dolphins Women Basketball Club will begin defending their NBBF/Zenith Bank Women Basketball Premier League title on Sunday, August 16. The defending champions face First Deep Water at the Indoor Sports Hall of the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos.

This match marks the start of the First Phase of the Atlantic Conference. The opening day schedule also features IGP Queens playing against newcomers Victoria Queens. In the afternoon, league record winners First Bank will play Royal Aces, while two-time champions MFM take on Bayelsa Blue Whales.

The Atlantic Conference phase will run from August 16 until August 22. The final day of this phase will feature a match between MFM and First Bank in the evening. Dolphins secured the 2025 title by defeating MFM in the final, ending the consecutive championship run of the Olukoya girls, who won in 2023 and 2024.

Action will shift to the Savannah Conference on Tuesday, August 18, at the Basketball Arena in Rayfield, Jos. The opening game of that conference features Air Warriors against Kada Angels. Other scheduled matches for the Savannah opening day include Nasarawa Amazons versus Ham Warriors, as well as fixtures involving Titans, Nigeria Customs, Aso Sky Queens, and Plateau Rocks.

The Savannah Conference First Phase is scheduled to conclude on Monday, August 24. This follows the conclusion of the Atlantic Conference games held in Lagos.
