Nigeria U19 crush Mozambique by 407 runs in tournament record

Nigeria’s Junior YellowGreens secured a 407-run victory over Mozambique U19 at the IPRC Oval in Kigali, setting a new tournament record with a total of 461/6. Mozambique were dismissed for only 54 runs in 23 overs following the massive first-innings total.

The Nigerian batting performance was driven by four players who combined for 385 runs, representing over 83 percent of the team's score. Bright Edem Nyong anchored the finish with an unbeaten 137 from 53 balls, hitting 11 fours and 12 sixes at a strike rate of 258.49. Peculiar Egemasi contributed a century, scoring 123 from 84 deliveries, including 18 fours and three sixes.

Earlier in the innings, Hossana Omonkhobhio provided a foundation with 84 runs from 73 balls, striking 11 fours and two sixes. Captain Ali Rahmon added 41 runs from 46 balls, including eight boundaries, before being dismissed at 89/1 in the 14.2nd over. These four contributions ensured Nigeria reached the tournament-high total of 461/6 after their 50 overs.

Nigeria's bowling unit restricted Mozambique to 54 runs in 23 overs. Kenneth Boniface took 3/13 in three overs, while Princewill Chigozie recorded figures of 2/8 from eight overs, which included four maiden overs. Peculiar Egemasi earned player of the match honours after his century and a bowling contribution of 3/1.

This result moves the Junior YellowGreens into second place on the tournament log. Nigeria has one remaining match in the ICC U19 Men’s Cricket World Cup Africa Qualifier Division 2, which will be played against Sierra Leone U19.
