Dylan Biggs Puts WBC Grand Prix Prize on Line Against Guzel in Queensland
Australian middleweight Dylan Biggs will face unbeaten Turkey fighter Kenan Guzel for the WBC Silver title after winning last year’s Grand Prix.
Dylan Biggs will face Turkey’s unbeaten Kenan Guzel for the WBC Silver Middleweight Title on Sunday, August 30, at Ipswich Turf Club in Queensland. Biggs enters the bout with 18 wins, one defeat and nine knockouts, while Guzel has won all seven of his professional fights, including five by stoppage.
The title opportunity is the main reward from Biggs’ victory in the WBC Boxing Grand Prix at middleweight last December. He came through four stages before reaching the final in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, where he beat Canada’s Derek Pomerleau by unanimous decision over eight rounds.
That victory earned Biggs the José Sulaimán Trophy and the chance to challenge for the WBC Silver belt. Eight months later, the Australian will attempt to turn the tournament success into another significant achievement at middleweight.
Biggs has built an eight-fight winning run since the only loss of his career. Nikita Tszyu stopped him by technical knockout in November 2023, when Biggs was challenging for the Australian Super Welterweight Title.
The defeat prompted Biggs to move up to middleweight and rebuild his record. His subsequent run included the Grand Prix campaign and ended with the unanimous-decision win over Pomerleau in the final.
Guzel will bring an unbeaten record into the contest. His most recent victory came against Uzbekistan’s Edem Zeyraliyev, whom he defeated on points. Biggs continues to train with Justin O’Leary, who has worked with him since he started boxing at Beaudesert Boxing Club at the age of 10.
