Robert Garcia says Anthony Joshua still has “insane” KO power
Former trainer Robert Garcia believes Anthony Joshua retains exceptional knockout power as a possible Tyson Fury fight is discussed for November.
Former Anthony Joshua trainer Robert Garcia has described the heavyweight’s knockout power as exceptional, saying his right hand remains a major threat ahead of a possible meeting with Tyson Fury. Joshua has won 27 of his 30 professional victories by stoppage.
Joshua stopped his first 20 opponents before Joseph Parker became the first man to take him to the judges, when the pair met in a heavyweight world-title unification fight. His only other points wins came in the rematch with Andy Ruiz and against Jermaine Franklin.
The 36-year-old showed that his finishing ability remains intact in his most recent bout against Kristian Prenga. Joshua was knocked down twice in the opening round but recovered to end the contest with a single-punch knockout.
Garcia, who worked with Joshua for his 2022 rematch against Oleksandr Usyk, said he had experienced the force of Joshua’s punches during training. He rated the British fighter’s power beyond normal comparison and identified the right hand as a particularly dangerous weapon.
The former trainer suggested that the key issue in a potential Fury fight would be whether Fury could withstand Joshua’s cleanest punch. Garcia’s view is that Joshua’s power is capable of stopping any opponent, while Joshua could face serious problems if Fury absorbs the shot and remains effective.
A Joshua-Fury bout is being discussed for November in New York. However, claims that the event is already ready for an announcement are not considered accurate, leaving the proposed heavyweight meeting without a confirmed launch.
