Eddie Hearn doubts Liam Paro can beat Devin Haney

Eddie Hearn has expressed doubt regarding Liam Paro's chances in a potential unification fight against Devin Haney. The promoter views Haney as a heavy favorite to win if the bout between the IBF and WBO champions takes place.

Speaking on the Punch podcast, Hearn argued that Paro lacks the necessary tools to overcome the WBO champion. He stated that while Paro is a talented fighter, he does not possess the punching power to damage Haney or the technical ability to outbox him. Hearn described Haney as a highly experienced and accomplished competitor.

This stylistic challenge presents a significant hurdle for the IBF welterweight champion. Although Paro has secured titles in two different weight classes, his record of 16 knockouts in 28 wins suggests he is not a heavy hitter. To succeed against Haney, Paro may need to apply pressure to stop the WBO champion from dictating the pace from the outside.

Hearn suggested that these difficulties explain why Paro is seeking a massive payday for the fight. He noted that Paro faces the risk of losing his title and becoming beltless, whereas he can currently earn significant money defending his belt in Australia. Hearn believes the financial reward must be high enough to justify the risk of the matchup.

Currently, Haney has targeted Paro's IBF title, and both fighters have expressed interest in the fight. However, negotiations remain complicated by financial disagreements. Hearn advised that Paro should only accept the fight if it offers an absolute fortune, otherwise, staying in Australia to defend his title is the safer option.
