Eintracht Frankfurt hammer St. Tonis 11-0 in record German Cup rout

Eintracht Frankfurt opened Adi Hutter’s second spell with an 11-0 German Cup win over St. Tonis, setting a record for the competition’s biggest victory.

Eintracht Frankfurt began their German Cup campaign with an 11-0 win over St. Tonis. They scored 10 times before half-time, setting the highest first-half total in the competition’s 84-year history.

The result was also Frankfurt’s biggest victory in the German Cup. Jonathan Burkardt supplied three goals, while Can Uzun scored twice in a one-sided contest that was effectively settled before the interval.

Robin Koch, Ayoube Amaimouni, Elias Baum, Younes Ebnoutalib and Mario Gotze added one goal each during the opening 45 minutes. Fares Chaibi completed the scoring late in the second half to give Frankfurt an 11-goal margin.

The emphatic win marked a successful return to competitive football for coach Adi Hutter, who is back in charge of the club. It also provided a sharp response to Frankfurt’s 7-0 friendly defeat by Brentford in London last weekend.

Hutter credited St. Tonis for taking an attacking approach despite the difference in level between the teams. He said Frankfurt’s two goals from set pieces changed the direction of the match and described the final result as deserved. The coach was satisfied to move into the next round but stressed that the Bundesliga would present a much harder test.

Frankfurt’s next fixture is their Bundesliga opener away to Union Berlin next weekend. Ansgar Knauff also highlighted the support from the travelling Frankfurt fans, whose display included a tifo during the rout.
