Enugu Marathon urges South-East, South-South runners to register

Organisers of the Enugu City International Marathon are urging athletes from Nigeria’s South-East and South-South to complete registration before next Friday’s race.

Organisers of the Enugu City International Marathon are calling on long-distance runners from Nigeria’s South-East and South-South to register for the event, which is scheduled for next Friday. Registration remains open as preparations enter their final stage.

Nilayo Sports Management, the event organiser, said participation from international, local and elite athletes has already exceeded expectations. It is now seeking stronger representation from athletes in the two regions, with young and talented runners specifically encouraged to join the field.

Planning for the race has been completed across several areas. These include logistics, route certification, medical services, water stations, traffic control and security along the course. Enugu State Government is backing the marathon, which organisers say is expected to support tourism and business activity in the city.

The main event will be a 42-kilometre elite marathon. It will begin at 6:30am from ShopRite on Abakaliki Road. A separate 10-kilometre fun run will start at 8:30am from Chris Tee Petrol Station on CIC Road and finish at Opara Square, with the programme expected to conclude around 12:30pm.

Organisers also said coordination among the agencies involved is in place to protect athletes, spectators and visitors. The continuing registration drive gives runners from the South-East and South-South an opportunity to enter before the race takes place next Friday.
