FKF condemns violence after Tusker's 3-1 FKF Super Cup win
FKF has condemned violence, vandalism and journalist intimidation after Tusker beat Gor Mahia 3-1 in the FKF Super Cup at Nyayo Stadium.
Tusker beat Gor Mahia 3-1 in the FKF Super Cup at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday evening, but the match was followed by violence, vandalism and disruption. The Football Kenya Federation condemned the incidents and said it would examine what led to the unrest.
FKF said the disorder included intimidation of journalists, attacks and damage to property. It also criticised the use of tear gas and other crowd-control methods, saying security agencies had to maintain order without putting players, fans, officials, media workers, security personnel or members of the public at risk.
Police and supporters became involved in running battles around the stadium, with tear gas fired into the crowd. Journalists covering the match also reported confrontations with uniformed officers, while videos from the scene showed a group of reporters facing police during the disturbance.
The trouble also reached the playing area as fans moved onto the platform prepared for Tusker's trophy presentation. Gor Mahia vice-chairperson Sally Bolo was shown appealing to supporters not to damage the presentation structure.
FKF said it would work with the relevant authorities to establish the circumstances behind the skirmishes. The federation plans to review match footage, officials' reports and information from other stakeholders. It said anyone found to have broken federation rules or the law, whether a supporter, club official, steward or security officer, should face action through due process.
The incident follows a previous FKF Premier League season in which several matches were halted because of crowd trouble. Gor Mahia had finished first in the 2025 league with 69 points from 34 matches, recording 20 wins, nine draws and five defeats while scoring 50 goals and conceding 22. Their listed recent sequence before the Super Cup was defeat, win, defeat, draw and victory, including a 3-1 result at Murang'a SEAL. Gor's next fixture is against Murang'a SEAL in the FKF Premier League on August 29, 2026.
