Hoima City Stadium cleared for 17,000 fans for Kitara’s CAF tie

Kitara will host Mogadishu City at Hoima City Stadium after Uganda’s National Council of Sports approved capacity for 17,000 fans.

Hoima City Stadium has been approved to admit 17,000 supporters for Kitara’s CAF Confederation Cup preliminary-round tie against Mogadishu City. The next listed fixture is scheduled for 5 September 2026, with the Ugandan club set to use Hoima for the continental contest.

The National Council of Sports has cleared the venue for both matches in the tie, including the fixture in which Mogadishu City are designated as the home side. That arrangement means Kitara will play both legs at the same stadium, giving them continuity at the venue and removing the usual away-trip demands.

Kitara’s ticket plan includes 16,000 places for ordinary supporters at Shs20,000 each. A further 856 VIP tickets will cost Shs50,000, while the Sky VVIP section has 144 places arranged through 12 boxes, each priced at Shs1 million and designed for 12 people.

The club has begun selling tickets in Hoima as it prepares for its latest continental campaign. Gates are due to open at midday on each match day, and sales will operate on a first-come, first-served basis. Kitara will also cover Mogadishu City’s transport, accommodation and stadium-related expenses during their stay in Uganda.

The tie gives the recently opened stadium a major competitive test. Its performance in handling entry, security, crowd movement and other match-day duties will be relevant as Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania prepare to co-host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations. The venue was built as part of Uganda’s infrastructure programme for that tournament.

Kitara enter the Confederation Cup after beating SC Villa 2-1 in the Stanbic Uganda Cup final. In the 2025 Uganda Premier League, they finished fourth with 56 points from 30 matches, recording 16 wins, eight draws and six defeats while scoring 43 goals and conceding 22.

Their recent league sequence has been uneven: draws against Police and BUL, defeats by Express and NEC, then a 2-0 victory over SC Villa. Playing both continental fixtures in Hoima gives Kitara a home setting as they seek to build on their cup success and return to African competition.
