Floyd Schofield and Lukas Bahdi to fight for vacant WBA title

Floyd Schofield Jr. will challenge Lukas Bahdi for the vacant WBA lightweight title on October 10. The agreement between Golden Boy and Most Valuable Promotions allowed the fighters to bypass the WBA purse bid and its $150,000 minimum requirement.

Schofield, who holds the WBA number one ranking, enters the contest with a professional record of 19-0 and 13 knockouts. Bahdi is ranked number two by the WBA and carries a record of 20-0 with 15 knockouts. The lightweight belt was previously held by Gervonta Davis before he vacated the position.

For Schofield, the match represents a return to championship contention following the cancellation of a scheduled bout against Shakur Stevenson in February 2025. That fight was abandoned during fight week due to illness. Schofield's last appearance in the ring was a first-round knockout of Tevin Farmer in June 2025, meaning he will have a 16-month layoff before facing Bahdi.

Bahdi, a 32-year-old Canadian, has maintained momentum through several recent victories. He secured a sixth-round knockout of Ashton Sylve in July 2024 and subsequently defeated Armando Casamonica and Ryan James Racaza, both of whom suffered their first professional losses in those matches. His most recent fight occurred last August, where he won a 12-round unanimous decision against Roger Gutierrez.

Schofield's manager, Michael Miller, stated that the fight is scheduled for October 10 and is likely to take place in Las Vegas. The 23-year-old Schofield is currently ranked number six in the division by The Ring, while Bahdi holds the number eight spot.
