GFA approves 2026 Democracy Cup meeting for Ghana Parliament
The GFA has approved Parliament’s 2026 Democracy Cup, with Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko set to meet on August 28 at Baba Yara.
The Ghana Football Association has approved Parliament’s organisation of the 2026 Democracy Cup, which will feature Accra Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko. The match is scheduled for Friday, August 28, 2026, with kick-off set for 4pm at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium.
The two Ghana Premier League clubs have agreed to participate in the fixture. Their meeting will mark the third edition of the Democracy Cup, a match arranged by Parliament as part of its football-related activities.
The 2026 event will commemorate 32 years of parliamentary democracy in Ghana. Parliament’s organisation of the match therefore links the fixture to the country’s democratic history while also placing two of its leading football clubs at the centre of the occasion.
Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko are among the established names in Ghana’s Premier League, and their approval gives the planned match its confirmed participants. The GFA’s decision also formally clears Parliament to stage the fixture on the announced date, at the stated venue and time.
The football association congratulated Parliament for sustaining the country’s democratic system and for its contribution to football development. That recognition accompanied the approval of the match and underlined the sporting purpose attached to the annual event.
Match officials have not yet been named. The GFA is expected to release the appointments at a later date, leaving the referee and other officiating details to be confirmed before the August fixture.
