Ghana FA president unveils new domestic football era at 32nd Congress
Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku used the GFA’s 32nd Congress to set out reforms, investment plans and a wider commercial vision for Ghana football.
Ghana Football Association president Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku has outlined a broad plan for the future of Ghana football at the association’s 32nd Congress. The meeting was held on Thursday, August 20, 2026, at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, with 124 delegates in attendance.
The congress was held under the theme “Investing in Domestic Football for a Brighter Future”. Simeon-Okraku’s address covered governance, domestic competitions, club development, player welfare, youth and women’s football, technology, infrastructure and commercial investment.
He presented governance as a key part of the association’s progress, pointing to its focus on transparency, accountability and institutional integrity. The GFA president said those reforms had improved the association’s standing with the Confederation of African Football and FIFA, while stressing that further progress would require continued discipline, innovation and collective effort.
Domestic football was another central part of the address. The GFA has completed seven consecutive seasons of regular and off-season competitions without major disruptions, with the achievement credited to clubs, officials, administrators, security agencies, sponsors and commercial partners. Matchday procedures have also been strengthened to improve safety, organisation and the experience around games.
The association also highlighted the growing reach of the domestic game. During the 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, 186 matches were produced for television and other platforms, including 75 live games and 111 non-live broadcasts. AFA TV added 77 broadcasts, covering 71 Division One League matches and six Women’s Premier League fixtures from the second round.
Financial support for clubs and rewards for performance formed part of the proposed new direction. Each of the 18 Premier League clubs received GHS 1 million before the 2025/26 season through the GFA’s partnership with Adesa Productions Limited. The league champions are due to receive GHS 2 million, while the runners-up, third-placed and fourth-placed teams are set for GHS 1 million, GHS 800,000 and GHS 750,000 respectively. The plans are intended to strengthen club stability and encourage higher standards across Ghana’s domestic game.
