Harry Maguire hopes Rashford stays at Man Utd after 4-2 AC Milan loss

Harry Maguire says Manchester United would benefit from keeping Marcus Rashford after the forward returned in a 4-2 pre-season loss to AC Milan.

Manchester United lost 4-2 to AC Milan in a pre-season match on Saturday. Marcus Rashford played 30 minutes after coming on as a substitute, making his first United appearance since December 2024.

Harry Maguire believes United should keep the England forward beyond the September 1 transfer deadline. The defender regards Rashford as a major attacking threat and says his presence could improve the team.

Rashford had a chance to score after entering the match and showed some of his attacking qualities. He was given the No.9 shirt for the game, although United have indicated that the number is not necessarily his permanent one.

The appearance came after a period of uncertainty over Rashford’s future. He spent the second half of last season on loan at Aston Villa before joining Barcelona, but the LaLiga champions chose not to make the move permanent.

United manager Michael Carrick has not confirmed whether Rashford will remain at Old Trafford. He said the squad still had decisions to make after the Milan defeat, leaving the forward’s position unresolved while the transfer window remains open.

Maguire has played with Rashford for several years and also sees value in having him back in training. He believes working with and against the forward can help the rest of the United squad, while Rashford’s involvement against Milan showed he remains part of the team’s current preparations.
