Hull City move second in EPL table after 2-0 win over Man Utd

Hull City climbed to second in the EPL after Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy scored in a 2-0 victory over Manchester United.

Hull City moved up to second place in the Premier League after beating Manchester United 2-0 on Saturday. Semi Ajayi and Nobel Mendy scored in the first half, with both goals coming from set-piece situations as the Tigers secured a notable victory over the Red Devils.

The result leaves Hull behind Arsenal in the early table. Arsenal occupy first place after defeating Coventry City 3-0 on Friday night, giving Hull a two-point gap to close in the standings.

Hull have returned to the English top flight after Southampton were removed from the play-offs over the SpyGate matter. Their opening result against Manchester United immediately provided a major boost to their campaign and placed them among the leading teams.

The win also continued a strong run of results for Hull. Their recent sequence includes victories over Rizespor, Konyaspor, Middlesbrough and Millwall, followed by a 0-0 draw against Millwall. The run features 2-1, 3-0, 1-0 and 2-0 wins before the goalless draw.

Ajayi and Mendy’s first-half goals settled the contest before Manchester United could respond. Hull’s defensive record during their recent run was also underlined by the clean sheet, with the side conceding no goal in three of those five previous matches.

Hull’s next Premier League fixture is away to Coventry City on 29 August 2026. Coventry will enter that meeting after their 3-0 defeat by Arsenal, while Hull will arrive with the points from their win over Manchester United and a place near the top of the table.
