Island All Stars unveil Super League plans after over-45 tournament

Island All Stars Sports Club International are planning a Super League for veteran players after completing their first two-matchday Above-45 Football Tournament. The new league is expected to begin towards the end of September and run through October and November, with organisers promising a larger competition involving more teams.

The over-45 tournament marked a change from the club’s previous format, which had been staged over a single day. Its expansion gave the participating sides more chances to play, and the organisers judged the contest to have delivered the competitive standard expected from experienced footballers.

Island All Stars’ Director of Sports, Dr Ike Okorafor, said the teams maintained a high level throughout the championship. The matches were closely contested, with no side able to dominate its opponents easily. He also expressed satisfaction with the commitment and performances shown by every participating team.

Dinice Royal Investment won the tournament after overturning a deficit to defeat Network Times in the final. The deciding match formed part of a competition that produced goals, turning points and notable individual displays before Dinice Royal Investment secured the title.

The planned Super League will extend the organisers’ work beyond a short tournament and provide a more regular programme for All Stars football. It is also intended to strengthen the community built around veteran players and give more teams access to competitive matches.

Okorafor indicated that the next edition of the Above-45 tournament would also be improved after the inaugural two-matchday event. The progression from a one-day competition to a championship played across two matchdays, followed by the proposed Super League, sets out a broader programme for Island All Stars Sports Club International.
