Issah Yakubu features for Kotoko in friendly before permanent move

Centre-back Issah Yakubu appeared in a pre-season friendly for Asante Kotoko after passing his medical examinations ahead of a permanent transfer.

Issah Yakubu featured for Asante Kotoko in a friendly match on Thursday as his permanent transfer to the club nears completion. The centre-back appeared on the pitch following the successful conclusion of his medical examinations.

This appearance provided an early chance for the defender to train and play alongside his prospective teammates. The move is expected to be officially confirmed in the coming days as the club finalises the signing process.

Yakubu was included in the squad for the club's pre-season tour of Accra. He joined a defensive group that includes Ali Umar, Hamzata Musah, Emmanuel Kotei, Joseph Amoah, Abu Adams, Patrick Asiedu, and Koffi Marius Ange Bini.

The addition of the centre-back is part of a wider defensive rebuild under head coach Eric Tinkler. The club is working to strengthen the squad in preparation for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.

Kotoko have been active in the transfer market to improve their defensive options. Alongside the pursuit of Yakubu, the club has appointed Tinkler as head coach and is currently negotiating the return of goalkeeper Danlad Ibrahim.

These recruitment efforts follow a difficult previous campaign for the Porcupine Warriors. The club aims to bolster its roster to ensure a stronger performance in the upcoming league season.
