Issaka Mohamed finds success and culture in Zimbabwe

Ghanaian utility player Issaka Mohamed has embraced life in Zimbabwe after 20 months in the country. The 31-year-old has integrated into the local culture, learning Shona phrases such as “maita basa,” which translates to thank you. He has also developed a preference for local music, citing contemporary artist Jah Prayzah as his favourite.

Mohamed arrived in Zimbabwe in January 2025 following a Ghana Cup victory with Nsoatreman. He joined Dynamos, where he helped the club secure the Chibuku Super Cup after a 1-0 win against Triangle United at Gibbo. Since then, the versatile player has moved to Scottland, where he is currently competing for silverware.

Scottland, who currently lead the Premier Soccer League, face FC Platinum in a Chibuku Super Cup round-of-16 match at Rufaro. A victory would keep the club's hopes of achieving a historic treble alive, as they also remain active in the Munhumutapa Challenge Cup. Mohamed is working to add another trophy to his collection alongside teammates such as Kelvin Moyo, Peter Muduhwa, and Kwakhe Thwala.

While Mohamed previously played as a centre-back for Dynamos, coach Norman Mapeza has primarily used him as a right-back at Scottland. His ability to play as a defensive midfielder or centre half provides tactical flexibility. However, he faces competition for the right-back position from former Dynamos teammate Emmanuel Jalai.

Mohamed noted that the high expectations at Scottland push him to be a better player. He expressed a desire to contribute to the team's success and win another Chibuku Super Cup medal. He also mentioned that his peers in Ghana have observed the increasing interest and transformation within the Zimbabwean football league.
