Iwobi leads list of highest-paid Nigerian Premier League stars

Alex Iwobi is the highest-earning Nigerian player in the Premier League for the 2026-27 season, followed by Ola Aina and Taiwo Awoniyi.

Alex Iwobi is the highest-paid Nigerian footballer in the Premier League for the 2026-27 campaign. He leads a group of six Nigerian players earning significant wages as the new season approaches.

Ola Aina holds the second position on the list. The Nottingham Forest defender earns an estimated £60,000 per week, which amounts to a fixed annual salary of £3.12m. Aina, whose contract runs until June 2028, was a key figure in Forest's recent success, making 35 appearances and helping the club secure European football. He is positioned £20,000 per week behind Iwobi.

Taiwo Awoniyi ranks third with an estimated weekly salary of £50,000. The Nottingham Forest striker earns approximately £2.6m annually under a contract that expires in June 2027. Awoniyi has recorded 21 goals in 90 Premier League matches. His recent form included a standout performance against Chelsea in May 2026, where he scored twice and provided an assist in a 3-1 victory.

Calvin Bassey follows in fourth place. The Fulham defender earns an estimated £45,000 a week, totaling £2.34m per year. Bassey has been a consistent presence for Fulham since his 2023 move from Ajax, making 35 league appearances during the 2024-25 season.

Further down the rankings, Semi Ajayi and David Akintola represent Hull City's returning squad. Ajayi earns an estimated £17,500 weekly, or £910,000 per year, excluding bonuses. The 32-year-old centre-back was instrumental in Hull's promotion via the Championship play-offs. Akintola is the lowest-paid Nigerian in the top six, earning a gross fixed salary of £15,000 per week, which equates to £780,000 annually. The 30-year-old winger will be making his Premier League debut this season following Hull's promotion at Wembley.
