Academy midfielder Walter Nutter has secured his first professional contract with Southampton following a productive season with the Under-18s.
Southampton midfielder Walter Nutter has signed his first professional contract with the club. The academy player has committed to a two-year deal following his recent performances.
Nutter joined the Southampton Academy from Chelsea one year ago. His transition to the club was marked by a strong debut season where he featured heavily in the Under-18s Premier League. During his 28 appearances in that competition, he recorded five goals and five assists.
Beyond the Under-18 level, Nutter also made his debut for the Under-21 side. He featured for the development squad in both National League Cup fixtures and PL2 matches.
Andy Goldie, the Director of Group Talent Strategy, noted that Nutter showed significant improvement last season. Goldie highlighted the midfielder's ability to perform while in possession and mentioned that his progress led to opportunities with the Under-21 squad.
The club intends to focus on developing different elements of Nutter's game to increase his influence on matches. The technical staff expects him to play more frequently for the Under-21s during the current season as he continues his development.
