Jason Joseph wins 110m hurdles gold with 13.12 season best

Jason Joseph claimed the men's 110m hurdles title at the European Championships in Birmingham on Wednesday. The Swiss athlete recorded a season's best time of 13.12 to secure the gold medal in the final event of the evening.

Joseph, who holds the Swiss record, maintained a clean rhythm over the barriers and pulled away from the competition in the final metres. France's Just Kwaou-Mathey took the silver medal with a time of 13.16, despite entering the championships as the top seed with a personal best of 13.20. Poland's Jakub Szymański earned the bronze in 13.26, matching his season's best to secure his first major outdoor medal.

British hurdler Sam Bennett finished seventh in the final with a time of 13.62. This result followed a strong performance in the semi-finals, where Bennett clocked a personal best of 13.26 to become the fastest qualifier. Bennett noted that he struggled during the final, stating he was bumping into the athlete in the adjacent lane and felt he was capable of winning.

The final standings saw France's Thomas Wilkes in fourth place with 13.36, followed by Austria's Enzo Diessl in fifth at 13.44. Theo Pedre of France finished sixth in 13.46, while Cyprus's Milan Trajkovic was eighth in 13.87.

It was a difficult night for the British contingent. While Bennett reached the final, teammate Tade Ojora was eliminated in the semi-finals after finishing fifth in his heat with a time of 13.48.
