Jesús Ramos Jr. to hold Casa Grande media workout before WBC bout

Interim WBC middleweight champion Jesús “Mono” Ramos Jr. will hold a media workout in his hometown of Casa Grande, Arizona, ahead of his September 19 fight against unbeaten mandatory challenger Meiirim Nursultanov. The bout is scheduled as the co-main event at Pechanga Arena in San Diego, California, with the action streaming on DAZN and presented by Premier Boxing Champions.

Ramos enters the contest as a rising Mexican fighter and interim champion. Nursultanov, who has not lost, is the mandatory challenger for the middleweight title. Their 12-round meeting will form part of a card promoted by TGB Promotions, with the main programme beginning at 8 p.m. ET, or 5 p.m. PT.

The headline fight will feature Mexican star Isaac “Pitbull” Cruz defending his interim WBC super lightweight title against once-beaten Puerto Rican contender Nestor Bravo. That contest is also set for 12 rounds and will be shown live on DAZN as part of the Premier Boxing Champions presentation.

The Casa Grande workout will include an appearance by Mayor Lisa Navarro Fitzgibbons. Ramos received the city’s key from the mayor in March, while the city also recognised him with its Hometown Legacy Award for his contribution to Casa Grande’s character and future.

Ramos’ father and trainer, Jesus Ramos Sr., has also received recognition in the city. Congressman Juan Ciscomani presented him with the American Dream Inspirational Educator Supporter award earlier this month for his contributions to Casa Grande.

The Ramos family’s local work includes the Ramos Boxing Academy, which opened in 2022. The family also took control of the Paramount Theatre across from the gym last year, using the historic venue for community events. A Casa Grande’s Got Talent showcase is scheduled for later this month. Tickets for the San Diego event are available through AXS.com.
