João Palhinha rejects Newcastle for Aston Villa or Benfica

Bayern Munich midfielder João Palhinha has turned down Newcastle United, preferring a move to either Aston Villa or Benfica.

Bayern Munich defensive midfielder João Palhinha has rejected an opportunity to join Newcastle United. The 31-year-old Portuguese international is instead focusing on potential moves to Aston Villa or Benfica.

Newcastle United had reportedly attempted to secure the player's services with an offer for a three-year contract to facilitate a permanent transfer. However, Palhinha has turned down the Premier League side, narrowing his transfer interests to a choice between Aston Villa and Benfica.

Reports indicate that Palhinha has already reached personal agreements with both interested clubs. The midfielder is reportedly willing to accept a reduction in salary to facilitate a return to Portugal with Benfica. While both clubs are in contention, Aston Villa is currently viewed as having a slight advantage in the race for his signature.

Despite the progress made regarding personal terms, a definitive agreement has not been reached with Bayern Munich. Aston Villa sporting director has acknowledged the player as a target, but negotiations with the German champions remain a significant hurdle. Max Eberl has confirmed that while Villa have made contact, no deal is currently in place between all parties.

Benfica remains in a strong position as negotiations between Villa and Bayern Munich continue to face complications. The player has given the green light to interested clubs, but the final outcome depends on the ability of the suitors to reach a financial agreement with Bayern Munich to unlock the transfer.
