Joseph Opoku scores as Swansea beat Stoke 2-1 in Championship

Joseph Opoku scored as Swansea City recovered from an early setback to defeat Stoke City 2-1 in their Championship opener at the bet365 Stadium. The Ghanaian forward’s equaliser helped Swansea begin the campaign with three points away from home.

Stoke took the lead after 10 minutes when Eric Bocat converted Tomas Rigo’s assist. The hosts had started with greater attacking intent, but Swansea responded before the interval and brought the match level through Opoku.

Opoku finished from an opening created by Zan Vipotnik in the 22nd minute. His goal changed the direction of the contest and ensured Swansea went into half-time with momentum after conceding first.

Swansea remained a threat after the restart and completed the comeback in the 66th minute. Adam Idah scored shortly after coming on, with Josh Tymon supplying the final pass for the winning goal.

Stoke looked for a second equaliser in the closing stages, but Swansea protected their advantage. The result gives Swansea a positive start to the new Championship season, while Stoke begin with a defeat after surrendering their early lead.
