Josephine Bonsu asks for patience as Ghana seeks World Cup spot

Black Queens defender Josephine Bonsu has called on Ghanaian supporters and critics to show more patience as the national team pursues qualification for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup. The defender made the plea following Ghana's 2-1 victory over Côte d'Ivoire, a result that moves the team into the intercontinental play-offs.

Bonsu, who scored the decisive goal from the penalty spot, noted that the match was a difficult encounter for the squad. She observed that the team struggled in the opening stages of the game but improved significantly after the halftime interval.

The defender specifically addressed the negative feedback directed at the team, stating that harsh criticism impacts the players. She asked the fans not to lose faith in the group, expressing confidence that the squad can still secure a place at the tournament in Brazil.

This victory follows a period of difficulty for the Black Queens. The team missed out on automatic qualification for the 2027 tournament after a 2-1 quarter-final defeat to Malawi during the 2026 Women's Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite the previous exit from the continental showpiece, Bonsu remains certain of the team's ability to qualify through the upcoming play-off stage.
