Pape Thiaw demands $745,000 from Senegal Football Federation

Former Senegal head coach Pape Thiaw has served a formal legal notice to the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) demanding the payment of 423,820,300 CFA francs. This amount is approximately $745,000.

Thiaw's lawyer, Maître Guedel Ndiaye, delivered the notice on August 11, 2026. The claim covers unpaid salaries, travel expenses, housing allowances, and bonuses. It also includes bonuses related to the World Cup and the Africa Cup of Nations.

The former coach was dismissed following Senegal's exit in the round-of-32 during the World Cup against Belgium. Before the tournament, FSF president Abdoulaye Fall claimed the relationship between the federation and Thiaw deteriorated because the coach sought a significant salary increase. Thiaw had requested his monthly pay rise from 20 million CFA francs ($35,000) to 50 million CFA francs ($87,000), though a figure of 30 million CFA francs was eventually agreed upon for the tournament period.

Thiaw's time leading the national team included winning the 2025 AFCON final, although that title was later stripped from Senegal and given to Morocco.

The federation is currently facing pressure regarding its management of the national team. Recent issues have surfaced concerning unpaid medical staff and players being required to pay for their own medical care during the World Cup.

The legal notice invites the FSF to settle the outstanding debt as soon as possible. If the federation fails to reach an agreement, Thiaw may initiate formal legal proceedings.
