Kaizer Chiefs send Xolani Cossa to Gomora FC on season-long loan
Kaizer Chiefs defender Xolani Cossa will spend the season at Gomora FC after impressing during a loan spell in Botswana last term.
Kaizer Chiefs have sent 22-year-old defender Xolani Cossa to Motsepe Foundation Championship side Gomora FC on a season-long loan. The move is intended to provide the academy graduate with regular football and further experience.
Cossa is a left-footed left centre-back who came through the Kaizer Chiefs Youth Development Academy. He spent last season on loan at Black Lions FC in Botswana, where he was among the club’s standout performers.
The defender will now continue his development in South Africa’s second tier, with the Motsepe Foundation Championship campaign set to begin today. He is expected to return to Kaizer Chiefs at the end of the season after gaining more senior-level experience.
Gomora will be coached by former Orlando Pirates full-back Patrick Phungwayo, who has taken over from Ashley Makhanya. Cossa will therefore join a side with a new technical figure as he competes for playing opportunities during the campaign.
His move also reunites him with Kaizer Chiefs teammate Sfiso Timba, who recently joined the Gauteng-based club. The two players will have the opportunity to develop together while seeking regular exposure in the National First Division.
Kaizer Chiefs believe the loan spell will help both players become more complete footballers before they return to Naturena. Cossa’s previous season in Botswana and his next step in the Motsepe Foundation Championship form part of the club’s effort to build experience among its young players.
