Kenya's William Lenkupae signs for USL Championship side Tulsa

Harambee Stars attacking midfielder William Lenkupae has signed with a USL Championship club in the United States. The 24-year-old Kenyan international joins the American side for the remainder of the 2026 season following his exit from the Finnish club Vaasan Palloseura (VPS).

Lenkupae's move to the second tier of American professional soccer follows a successful period in Finland, where he assisted VPS in securing a fourth-place finish. The transfer remains subject to approval from both the federation and the league. If cleared, the midfielder could make his debut as early as Saturday, August 15, in a match against New Mexico United.

Tulsa's sporting director and general manager, Caleb Sewell, welcomed the midfielder to the club. Sewell described Lenkupae as an aggressive two-way player with a high level of energy and the ability to play in multiple positions. He noted that the midfielder's experience playing on international and continental stages would be an asset as the club pursues its objectives during the final stages of the season.

The Kenyan international has a diverse footballing background. Born in Australia, he previously played for Melbourne Victory and Central Coast Mariners. During his time with the Mariners, he helped the club become the first Australian team to win the AFC Cup after they defeated Al-Ahed 1-0 in the final. Although he holds British and Australian citizenship, Lenkupae has earned 14 caps for Kenya.

His new club enters the remainder of the campaign as the 2025 USL Championship Western Conference title winners. The club expects Lenkupae to provide support as they work toward their goals for the 2026 season.
