Khamzat Chimaev responds to alleged DWCS hotel brawl claims
Khamzat Chimaev has criticised the alleged brawl involving teammate Baisangur Susurkaev and urged Chechens and Kurds to remain united.
Khamzat Chimaev has spoken out after claims that his teammate Baisangur Susurkaev was involved in an alleged hotel brawl with Dana White’s Contender Series fighter Namo Fazil. The former middleweight champion said disputes between individuals should not be allowed to create tension between wider communities.
Fazil raised the issue after losing to Kaik Brito in the main event of Dana White’s Contender Series week two at the UFC Apex. Brito stopped him with an overhand right in the third round, a finish that was widely described as one of the strongest knockouts in the show’s history.
After the bout, Fazil said he had encountered problems during fight week. Dana White also referred to difficulties faced by the fighter during his post-fight media appearance, without detailing what had happened.
Fazil later alleged on social media that he had been attacked by 15 Chechens while cutting weight on the day of the weigh-in. Susurkaev, who is Chimaev’s teammate, was identified as one of the fighters believed to have been involved in the incident.
Chimaev condemned the events and called for the matter to be handled privately by the people directly involved. He said Chechens and Kurds were fellow Muslims who should maintain unity, while expressing respect for the Kurdish community and for Salahuddin Ayyubi, the historical figure after whom his brother’s son was named.
Susurkaev has taken a different position in online posts. He defended what happened and argued that people who speak offensively about others should expect consequences, while challenging Fazil to communicate through official accounts.
No decision has been announced on whether Susurkaev will face disciplinary action from the UFC over his alleged involvement. The incident remains separate from Fazil’s defeat, which left Brito with the headline victory on the second week of the Contender Series programme.
