Kotoko coach Tinkler targets experienced foreign signings after 1-0 win

Asante Kotoko coach Eric Tinkler plans to add experienced foreign players as the club rebuilds for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season.

Asante Kotoko coach Eric Tinkler says the club is pursuing experienced foreign players for the 2026/27 Ghana Premier League season. The South African’s planning follows Tuesday’s 1-0 friendly victory over Heart of Lions at the University of Ghana Stadium.

Tinkler, who was recently appointed Kotoko’s head coach, is reshaping the squad after the Porcupine Warriors endured a disappointing campaign last season. The club has already released some players, creating room for further changes before the new league programme begins.

The coach and Stanley have spent the past three to four weeks reviewing potential recruits. Their work has involved watching footage of players from Ghana and abroad as Kotoko assess the additions needed to build a stronger squad.

Tinkler has placed particular value on players from outside Ghana who can bring experience to the team. He indicated that several new faces are expected and also suggested that the club has one or two signings that could surprise supporters.

The coach’s immediate aim is to establish a team capable of competing more effectively in the coming campaign. Kotoko’s preparations will continue with a meeting against traditional rivals Hearts of Oak in the 2026 Democracy Cup.

The Porcupine Warriors will then begin their 2026/27 Ghana Premier League campaign away against newly promoted Debibi United. The recruitment drive and the upcoming fixtures will form part of Tinkler’s effort to lay the foundation for his first season in charge.
