Lampard praises Coventry signing Yirenkyi after Monaco win

Coventry City manager Frank Lampard has expressed high expectations for Caleb Yirenkyi following the midfielder's performance in a 2-0 friendly win against Monaco on Friday. The 20-year-old Ghanaian player provided an assist during the match, helping his side to the victory.

Lampard described the midfielder as a talented young player who represents a significant addition to the squad. The manager noted that the club expects Yirenkyi to enjoy a major career at Coventry City. He added that the player showed positive signs during the game against Monaco.

Yirenkyi joined Coventry City from FC Nordsjælland this summer for a fee of €27 million plus additional add-ons. This transfer represents a club record for Coventry City. Lampard mentioned that the player was a target for several different clubs across Europe before the move was completed.

The manager explained that the club successfully convinced the midfielder to join the team by presenting him with a long-term project. Lampard stated that there is significant belief within the club regarding Yirenkyi's potential and expressed satisfaction with the signing.

The Ghanaian midfielder has already gained international experience. He featured for the Ghana national team during the 2026 FIFA World Cup, where he scored a late goal to secure a win against Panama.
