Manchester City lead Premier League's record £3.46bn spend

Manchester City have added Iliman Ndiaye and Fernandez as Premier League clubs push total transfer spending to a record £3.46bn. Ndiaye’s move from Everton is worth up to £65m, comprising £60m in guaranteed payments and a further £5m in add-ons. The available details do not include a fee or contract information for Fernandez.

Ndiaye, a 26-year-old Senegalese winger, had appeared to be heading to Tottenham before City completed their move. Tottenham agreed terms with Everton on Friday night, in a deal that was linked to a possible return for Richarlison. That arrangement depended on the Brazil forward agreeing personal terms with Everton.

Richarlison did not reach an agreement with his former club. Everton are understood to have offered £35m for the forward, but the proposed transfer could not proceed. Tottenham were therefore unable to complete the Ndiaye deal, leaving the winger’s move open to another club.

Richarlison addressed the situation in an emotional Instagram statement on Monday. He said: “After everything I've been through in the last few years, I've decided that never again will anyone decide my future for me.” He added that he remained under contract at Tottenham and would stay available to the club.

Tottenham have since opened talks to sign Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk on a season-long loan. The move would give Spurs another route to strengthen their attack after losing the chance to bring Ndiaye back to the club through the proposed Everton arrangement.

City’s move for Ndiaye also follows an attempt to sign Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo for £80m. That deal appeared close to collapsing on Monday. Liverpool were willing to sell the Netherlands international, but only if they could secure a replacement before allowing him to leave.

Liverpool completed the signing of France forward Bradley Barcola from Paris Saint-Germain on Monday in a deal worth up to £123m. The club still wanted another attacking player if Gakpo was to depart. Liverpool subsequently considered moves for Brighton’s Yankuba Minteh and Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr, but the valuations of both players created difficulties.

Gakpo, 27, is now expected to remain at Anfield unless Liverpool can revive a deal for another winger before Tuesday’s deadline. The sequence of negotiations shows how one transfer can affect several clubs: Richarlison’s failed return to Everton disrupted Tottenham’s plan for Ndiaye, while Liverpool’s replacement requirement placed Gakpo’s proposed move to City under pressure. With Ndiaye now at Manchester City and Fernandez also added, the Premier League’s record spending has continued to rise before the window closes.
