Mark Magsayo to fight Andres Cortes on Garcia-Benn card

Former WBC featherweight champion Mark Magsayo will face undefeated lightweight Andres Cortes in a 10-round bout on September 12 in Las Vegas.

Mark Magsayo is set to face Andres Cortes in a 10-round lightweight contest on September 12. The bout will take place at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas as part of the Ryan Garcia vs. Conor Benn event card.

Both fighters are promoted by Zuffa Boxing. Magsayo enters the ring with a professional record of 29 wins and 2 losses, including 19 knockouts. He most recently competed at lightweight by defeating Feargal McCrory. The 31-year-old previously held the WBC featherweight title after beating Gary Russell Jr. in January 2022, before losing the championship to Rey Vargas six months later.

Cortes remains undefeated with a record of 25-0 and 13 knockouts. The 29-year-old previously fought under Top Rank before moving to Zuffa. While he secured a victory over Garcia in April, his recent performances against Abraham Nova and Eridson Garcia have positioned him as a fringe contender in the lightweight division.

The matchup serves as the opening bout for the main card. The event features a welterweight main event between Ryan Garcia and Conor Benn, alongside a cruiserweight co-feature between Jai Opetaia and Noel Mikaelian.

This fight brings two Zuffa fighters together on one of the promotion's major cards. Magsayo's transition through the weight classes has seen him move from featherweight to junior lightweight before his current position at 135 pounds.
